The Pentair 42001-0053S is an OEM water temperature thermistor sensor. It serves as a vital component in the electrical systems of specific pool and spa heaters. By continuously monitoring the water temperature, it sends real-time data back to the main control board to regulate heating cycles accurately.
Heater Compatibility

This part is a direct replacement component engineered by Pentair to fit several of their standard gas heaters, including:
  • Pentair MasterTemp (Models 200, 250, 300, and 400; Natural Gas and Propane)
  • Sta-Rite Max-E-Therm (Models 200, 333, and 400; Natural Gas and Propane)
  • Pentair Max-I-Therm
  • Pentair ETI 400 Eco-Select High-Efficiency Heaters
Symptoms of a Failing Thermistor

When a thermistor reaches the end of its typical lifespan, it will begin reporting incorrect data to the control pad. Common signs that it needs to be replaced include:
  • Inaccurate temperature readouts: The heater display might show a temperature that is significantly higher than the actual pool water (often jumping up to 109°F or 110°F immediately).
  • Control board error codes: Malfunctioning temperature sensors frequently trigger distinct fault or error codes on the heater's digital display panel.
Design & Technical Specifications

  • Material: Constructed with a corrosion-resistant stainless steel probe designed to handle constant chemical exposure inside pool and spa environments.
  • Connection Type: Features two male spade connectors on the back end for easy slip-on wire lead attachment.
  • Installation Requirements: Typically unscrews and tightens using a standard 7/8-inch deep socket or wrench. Plumber's tape (Teflon tape) must be applied to the threads before screwing the new sensor in to prevent water leaks.
